Graditude is the result of recognizing our blessings. It is rooted in humility and in love. It cannot live in the toxic soil of selfishness and entitlement. It produces the action of thankgiving and relishes the thought of knowing that someone cares and that we are the beneficiaries of their generosity and goodwill.
The Christian has much to give thanks for. Firstly, we are saved from sin and self and we have a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. In Him we have the best of this present life and the promise of even better things to come. Thanks be to God for life, health, family and friends.
Gratitude will always produce a spirit of giving even if we have nothing more to give than our thanks. Someone wisely and truthfully said " you may give without loving but you cannot love without giving." Giving, then, is the result of a thankful heart. This week and beyond let us give thanks with a grateful heart and let us learn to be givers more than merely takers.
